I have lived with Dread
For so long
In my chest.
Webs and reefs of its home, pull at
My bones.
Thoughts are born and flow
Like waves, like clouds
Salty, bubbly, full.
Onto the beach with no name.
Dread sits and counts to ten.
Because it takes that long
For it to mix, and send the fear
To my liver.
From the base of spine, to the tip of fingers.
I sit, frozen.
Unable to speak, count, breathe.
Yet, the game must go on.
With Dread, I share a home.
With Hope, I share some love.
With Fear, I share my future.
With Luck, I share some numbers.
