Depth

I am not a being of depth, I realise

The shallowness of my being

Constricts in my chest

Dark feels like home to me

I lose myself in its endless breadth.

Bodies of warmth and love

Stick to my skin

I feel a little less

Each time I see myself

In the mirror and I sigh

For what feels like years

Because even though I have changed

These voices are always heard.

Simply the fact that you realize that you are not, “a being of depth” makes you more insightful than most. Still, never forget that you’re a lovely young woman and a great poet.
